TAG-W is the average inning this team took the lead it never gave back, across its wins — lower means it puts teams away earlier. TAG-L is that same inning across its losses — higher means it stayed alive longer before the opponent pulled away for good. TAG Gap is TAG-L minus TAG-W.

Every game has exactly one such inning, and it belongs to both teams: when Atlanta took the lead for keeps in the 2nd, Philadelphia lost it in the 2nd.

TAG Gap is not a measure of quality. Its correlation with winning percentage is −0.06. The team leading this table is under .500; a 90-win team can sit near the bottom. It describes how a team wins, not whether.
